So, I recently bought a diesel from eBay, I like the engine and I especially like the drive unit IMO a good unit that's quiet!

So here's diesel

Most engines have a detachable face which is cast seperatly then attached by melting tabs located in the engines body. This is not the case with diesel, his face looks to be cast as part of the body then later painted, which makes defacing a little more tricky,

Firstly I drilled the four corners of diesels face,

The idea was to make the corners neater, but I probably could have got away without doing this, I then used a dremel type tool to remove the face

Once the face was out I cleaned the opening using a stanly knife

To be honest my stanly skills weren't fantastic and I could have done a better job to keep the opening square but oh well, you can only remove so much plastic! The next job was to fill the opening I used some plasticard I had laying around and glued it in the opening,

And this is as it stands, I'm waiting for the glue to dry, I intend to paint the plasticard black and fit a wire mesh grill, not correct for class 08's but I like mesh grills, and I have some mesh!

Hi Tramp, I could make the front louvres for you if you give me the dimensions.
Poor poor DieselSad
Nice work @"Tramp"
Diesel (now the B&O) was my second stab at a deface and found the non-removable face a pain. I probably should have cut it out as you have but didn't think of that at the time. Would of been so much easier and prettier if the face had a rear screw. As it was I took a long time filing and grinding the face down and then glued a thin metal grille from my parts box to it. Not my best work, my grille is silver and may look better as black because the grille is ever so slightly off. Are you planning a light too Oh Master of the Volt?

@"Wartsilaone" I would bet your louvers would look fantastic as that is what the real Diesel Class 08 looks like. Very nice of you to offer your talents to Tramp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pre...ocomotives
Nice work!
Very impressive work tramp!!!
Hi, what's the plastic casing around the battery? Never seen that before.

Thanks
its a AA battery adaptor. It allows you to run an AA battery where a C cell used to be.

Like these.
There is sometimes a slight issue with these in that they can tend to stop the positive terminal of the AA battery sticking out far enough to make good contact with the metal in the battery housing (engine, tender, etc). A little fettling soon sorts it out though.

Thank you very much for the offer, I do appreciate it. But I'm going to have to decline. I'm sure the louvers would be fantastic but I let my children play with the engines, I'd hate to glue the louvers on, only for my children to throw it in the box and damage them! I hope your not offended,
Luke
