Hey guys, i'm new here and new to the Plarail hobby, I was just wondering if any of you had any recommendations on what engines or sets I should get being a beginner. I already own a classic Edward and Henry which I purchased last night

It depends a lot on what you like. Steam, diesel and/or electric? Thomas characters, real world engines or both?

So much of the Plarail line is focused on the innumerable Japanese passenger and commuter trains, that it’s pretty much just a matter of what appeals to you aesthetically. Since the underlying mechanisms are often similar among similar classes of trains, I can’t say that (for example) the E6 Shinkansen is better than the E5.

Just my personal opinion but steam locomotives are a good place to start and there’s a nice selection available right now. You can build a nice roster with the D51, C61, C57, C56, C11 and C12 before you even have to start hunting for out of production and/or obscure models.

Hard to guess what trains you like but since you have already started with Plarail I would suggest staying with Plarail and since it looks like you have a liking to the Thomas characters how about a new release of Plarail Red Rosie. BTW, welcome to BluePlasticTracks BoCo, where did you hear about us?

Plarail sells expansion kit/sets its a good idea to begin with, if you want bigger layouts.
and with trains either buy new from jp or as i do in either broken og working lots, hope this will help you.
Keep on collecting Cool
The most simply set for beginner is "Thomas basic Set".

I'll probably get the either the Trackmaster or Tomy one, as the Plarail one can go for quite a lot of money.

Thanks for the reply, I'll probably buy most of my track from my own home country (England), as it will be cheaper, but all my engines will come from Amazon Japan or Ebay
