TrainTsar posted an interesting find, had no idea pullbacks existed beyond the Mcdonalds minis. Ill have to add this to my list of sets to hunt down.

here you go! the thomas ones dont appear to be made anymore, but the generic shinkansen style is still sold. i believe there used to be a set that came with thomas, percy and james. thomas is the only one im missing.

the wheel base is the same as standard tomy, but the bodies are shorter and chunkier, bigger than the mcdonalds ones.

there are several different styles that ive seen on jauce and ebay uk including fire engines, police cars etc.

Looks like the generic design in blue is pretty easy to get ahold of, and I kinda like it better than the Thomas ones lol. In addition to the ones you listed I'm seeing Mavis on eBay as well. One listing comes with a Henry tender and what appears to be Henrietta, but so far have not come across my first train versions of Toby or Henry.

Here are a couple of the Mavis listings. I've found the best search terms to be "tomy my first" and "tomy my first thomas".

thanks. those arent pull backs. they were released by golden bear i think, and are free wheeling. a friend bought heaps for his nephew when he was younger. these are even bigger again than the pull backs and have loads of track accessories.

I've heard of these. Not only do I have all three of the Thomas ones, but I also remember having one of the white "ugly duckling"s from before I discovered TTTE. The latter came in a set with colourful track, whereas the former were bought separately (as opposed to the set(s) they were available in). Before I had the Plarail type (Motor Road and Rail) Ultimate Set, I used this type of Percy because it worked on Tomy track. The only one I have at home right now is James, but the piece that is meant to prevent his motor from "escaping" is now missing. The eye mechanism still works, but not very well. Then again, Percy and Thomas have also had theirs fail even though they were never opened for a look inside (to see how they work). Normally, Tomy engineering is better than that. The only pullback Thomas happy meal toys I ever knew were Thomas and Diesel 10 from Subway's Magic Railroad range.
