Happy New Year! In grand OTR family tradition, we had our little NYE feast, Mom and Dad had Prosecco while the kids had sparkling cider and were all in bed well before 12:00 AM! Big Grin

I don't know about the rest of you but saying 2020 as a year sounds weird. Not as weird as when we changed 1999 to 2000 though.

Yes...we are old.
Many of our members weren’t even born in a year that began with 19!!

Mrs OTR and I were discussing something similar the other day when I recalled watching some kind of horrible New Year Disco Party show to “boogie into 1980” and hosted by Eric Estrada! (Oh God, I feel old and yes, it was as bad as it sounds!) I had a moment where I realized that was 40 years ago. Then, we both had a moment of “Oh Dear God.... NOOOO” when we realized that 1990 was now 30 years ago! Geez, we were already a couple then!

And yes, I had a bit of fun with the whole Blade Runner “December, 2019” thing. We aren’t where Syd Mead and Ridley Scott imagined us but I can’t say I’m the least bit unhappy about that. Even back in the 80s, I thought the Hong Kong-like megatropolis cyberpunk dystopian vision of what is now the present day was probably more than a bit off. And they had advanced space travel, flying cars, artificial humans and animals but no smart phones or even “dumb” cell phones! And who would imagine that in December 2019, there’d be posters for the new Star Wars movie? “All these moments lost, like tears... in rain.”

I should also mention that we at least momentarily survived the Apocalypse of 2000... by 20 years!
I really should consider doing a “We got the future wrong” film festival of movies and TV shows made in the past but set in the “distant future” of the first two decades of the 21st Century. I guess I’d have to include Patlabor, my favorite anime series from back when, even though a lot of the design elements were pretty credible, aside from the large, piloted mecha. I would also have to endure the sketchy Space:1999 while trying not to think too much about just how the moon would have to be traveling many, many times the speed of light to visit a new solar system every week!
