Tomica world 7524 question

Wow those tires look super grippy with the grooves that should turn those tumblers really well. Strange that it will work with your fingers but not with the tires. Try this for kicks...take one of your Plarail engines and see if it turns those tumblers.

And for my fingers, that's because I'm constantly releasing my finger grip to roll some more which sometimes helps the trapped gear move

Interesting. I am very curious to see the workings. I had a couple of these vehicle turn arounds that needed quite a few gear replaced as I think the plastic they used and the age of the item made them prone to splits.

   

Yes exactly. Had a used one I had to fix before, but since it's a simple turn mech (that is, the rollers only controlled essentially the turning mech) that was less daunting to open up. But with this, the rollers control likely other gears that control the other vehicles and the person arm.  So since it'll be my first time opening it ( like any other toys first opening without prior knowledge) I gotta take my time so something doesn't spring out or fall out of position BEFORE I know what original position these gears and springs belong in. But I'm definitely going to tackle this cause I can't leave it like this...I just hope I have spare gears for it right away. Again I'll take pictures and all the good stuff.

Indeed he might. I've had a few of these and they're always a bit iffy, even without cracked gears.  Wait a bit and I'll strip one down to show you.

Before you do that, Im already opening it up as we speak and I immediately found two cracked gears. You're definitely right about them not being solid since I didn't do much to this toy to make this happen. I'll send a photo 




It's there anything else I would need to know though about this set? I would like to know your insight.

Put silicone grease on all the moving parts (except the friction surfaces of the rollers, obvs!)

Lol of course. 👍 I'll still post opening it up and what I did. Any insight on this specific peice? Like where to find another one? Otherwise I might have to glue it if replacing the other gears doesn't alleviate the friction.

The white gears would be easily replaced (ten tooth?) but that grey one will be problematic. I have not had much success gluing gears as the gap seems to remain causing slippage. Since it doesn't work very good now and knowing my own skills...I would try cutting that grey gear off at its base, locking the metal axle in a rotary tool and using an X-Acto blade making a precise cut and super gluing a new gear to it but thats just me. No guarantee that this will work but if it doesn't work...it wasn't going to work anyway. Of course finding an exact gear would be perfect.

Curious why all the axles are pitted. Are you in a northern area where the weather changes a lot from winter to summer and this was stored in a non-temperature controlled area?
As Chrisjo says, I would grease the axles where they all come in contact with their plastic bearings. But before doing that maybe it will work satisfactory with just replacing all the split white gears.

Ok so I changed out the 3 gears white gears pictured, but the proprietary grey gear (circled in red) is more tricky to replace, so I left that one alone for now hoping the 3 replaced gears would be enough. Long story short it was.






Also the spiral gear was cracked as well but didn't notice it until I was putting things back together to test if the 3 replaced gears were enough to get the Automated Construction Site functioning again.

I don't have a direct photo of the spiral gear crack but here's a picture with the spiral gear when I first opened it up



If the three replaced gears didn't fix the problem I obviously would have opened it back up and took a picture of the cracked spiral gear. Video to come with fix thread
