Guide to Using Dr. Yellow Camera Train thing in 2024

Okay, so you like me (lies), buying this Plarail Doctor Yellow Shinkansen with cameras in 2024, with no knowledge of the app having been discontinued in 2022.

What do you do?

First, let's deal with the app. (Android only)
If you have an Android phone, you can find an apk file to install here
The app should install fine on Android 7 to 9, so, if you have a higher Android version (it's version 14 by now), you will need to install a Virtual Machine.
I will be using this app called "Virtual Master", that should have this icon.

You will need to enable "Developer mode" on your device, plus some other stuff, then run the Virtual Machine of Android 7 included in the app.

Once the virtual Android 7 opened, try to locate the apk file in your device and install it on the virtual Android 7. If successful, it should look like this.

Second, we will deal with the train.
You will need to insert 4 AA batteries in the middle car, preferably rechargeable ones in case of random voltage drop while in use. (Trust me, it took me 2 months to finally test the train out)

On the front car, you flip the switch to "FREE" so that the motor doesn't run while setting up the train.

Third, now we will try to connect the train to our phone.
Before open the app in the virtual Android, find the wifi that the train is emitting, which should look something like this. Connect to that on your main device, NOT in the virtual machine.
[Image: Screenshot-2024-05-02-16-54-09-50-46113d...3bdcc9.jpg]

Write down the full name of the train Wifi. You will need that later.

Now, open the app. There's no English, but for our purposes, just do what I say.
First thing you will see is this. Not something to serious, tap once to continue.

Keep tapping once in the next screens until you reach this screen. Tap the right button.
[Image: Screenshot-2024-05-02-16-51-41-35-46113d...3bdcc9.jpg]

Tap again when the info box disappear and you will reach this screen.

Orange is Gallery, Yellow is Settings, Green is Game, so we head to Blue button, for controlling the train and camera.

On this screen, tap the red button in the bottom.
[Image: Screenshot-2024-05-02-16-51-56-12-46113d...3bdcc9.jpg]

This screen will appear. Write in the text box with the train Wifi name you have noted down. Copy and save that in your virtual Android clipboard to use later. Then tap on the blue button.

The train will turn off then on by itself (this is normal), and this screen will appear. Tap on the blue button, and the app will send you to the virtual Android's Wifi settings.

Fourth, What is going on with this train?
Now we will have to do a reset sequence on this train. Somewhere in the front, under the front car, near the front bogie, there will be this hole.

To access this hole, you can unbend a paper clip and use the point to press the button.
Here's the reset sequence:
- While the train is on, use the paper clip to press on the reset hole for 15-30 seconds.
- Keep pressing on one hand, while turning the switch in middle car to OFF.
- Release the reset hole, then press the reset hole again, then turn the switch back to ON after 10-15 seconds.
- Keep the reset hole pressed until the train Wifi name showed up again on your device.

Now, reconnect your phone to the train Wifi, and now return to the app on your virtual Android.

BEHOLD! Your Dr. Yellow is fully connected! Test the train's camera by moving the train around and see if the camera feed is also moving.
[Image: Screenshot-2024-05-02-16-55-51-18-46113d...3bdcc9.jpg]

To control your train's movement, flick the switch on top of the front car to Auto.

On the camera feed screen, there are some buttons.
- On the right is the speed control. Green is reverse, Yellow is stop, Orange is 1st speed (quite quick), Red is high speed (super fast)
- Top right corner has two buttons. Right-most one is switching the camera feed between front and side. The other is for recording, but doesn't work for mine. Use a screen recording app instead.
- Bottom-left has two buttons, one for sound and one for lights. Both are on the device only, no such effects on the train itself.

AND THAT'S IT! Repeat all these steps if you want to use again.
Hunting Shinkansen for life (but not at all costs) :>
Fantastic Tutorial Hanoi. I know that in the past there has been many questions on how to get this train to work properly and now you have easily explained it step by step for those coming across one of these or still has one but were unable to get it to work properly whether it be because they don't speak Japanese or just can't figure out the mechanics. Well done 👍
