Bertram was introduced in the Season 5 episode, "Toby's Discovery"; financial difficulties in building a new model for him resorted to a repaint of Duke's model with the face switched out for one of Smudger's face masks. His Wooden Railway release depicts him in his tank engine form.

Thanks Hank

I am not sure I have this straight, in the TV or book series was Bertram supposed to be a tank engine but in the fictional series they made him a tendered engine?

What...Muddy, Thomas was actually part of an act of Congress in real life?

Howdy Super!

Bertram was never in the Railway Series(books), and solely in the televised program; in the show, he was supposed to be a tank engine. Due to financial difficulties, it was just cheaper to repaint an older model and switch face masks to save time and money to create another character; the only "accurate" rendition of Bertram is his Wooden Railway release, depicting him in his tank engine form. His TrackMaster form shows his model form in the show of a tender engine-- that explains why he and Duke look so alike.

Except for a little details they could be twins.

That could be a possibility, although I don't think it was meant to be.
